Group Spotlight: Swindon Climate Action Network
💚Swindon Climate Action Network is a network of people and organisations from across Swindon who are concerned about the climate and ecological emergencies we face and want to do something about them. They have an affiliation to Friends of the Earth.
☘️They aim to raise awareness and help people to engage with the issues, both by reducing their personal footprints and getting involved in local and national government and campaigns.
🌿You can find SCAN on Facebook, where they have a page and a group! The page has a public events diary of events hosted by other organisations and a group events diary of local events organised by people in the network.
🌳Recent activities have included online networking, engaging with the Swindon Borough Council cross-party working group on Climate Change, working with energy champions to set up a community energy efficiency group, talking to our MPs, and when in-person events were possible holding stalls at community events, film showings, trips to eco-friendly buildings, and more.
🌱The network is non-party-political, despite including supporters from various political parties.
It is easy to get involved at any level. You can email them to be on their contacts list for news, and they are always open to new volunteers.
🍃SCAN was set up in June 2005 to bring together people in and around Swindon who are concerned about climate change.
Since then the group has developed strong links with the local council, MPs and the media, and is working in conjunction with Wiltshire Wildlife Trust and Friends of the Earth on particular campaigns.
